#WeAreTheThey and I’ll wear tight clothing if I want to

This post has now moved to here.

The beautiful Debs has come up with a new plan for #WeAreTheThey, today a group of bloggers will be breaking some so-called rules for plus size women. We are wearing the kinds of things that normally the fashion industry considers forbidden territory for us larger women.

Because why should slimmer women have all the fun?

Not only #WeAreTheThey, we are also people not animals

This post has now moved to here.

Since Plus Size Wars has been on I’ve seen a few idiots people comparing plus size girls and women to pets. The two instances that come immediately to mind are, “our pets would be taken off us if we let them get that fat”, and “it’s like with pets, we’ve forgotten what normal looks like”.

What the hell is with those comparisons?

Sisterhood thanks to #PlusSizeWars and #WeAreTheThey

This post has now moved to here.

The last few days have been incredible, and quite emotional. I’ve never seen anything quite like it, and will always treasure having been there for it.

It all started with Plus Sized Wars, a programme on Channel 4 about plus size bloggers and plus size fashion. As the time approached for it to air almost my whole Twitter timeline seemed to be holding it’s breath. Was this going to be a horrific car crash of a TV show? Were we going to see beloved bloggers used as cannon fodder in the name of controversial television?

The Diet Industry and triggers

This post has now moved to here.

I have to admit, this is a post about a specific conversation. But it got me thinking, and it got me thinking about something that I find tough to think about. So I figured getting it out of my system might stop it circling around in my mind.

You may have read before that I have struggled with disordered eating. I still struggle with the thoughts and still have the same triggers.

I want to talk about some of those. Shouldn’t need saying, but trigger warnings galore here.

#DropThePlus and our daughters

This post has now moved to here.

Sorry to be repetitive, but I’ve been reading more on the #DropThePlus campaign and it got me thinking. Lovely as Ajay is, I’m sorry to say the more I think about it the less keen I am on it. Though I agree totally with their desire to make a better world for girls, and applaud them for their attempts, if not their methods.

I suspect this will be a long post.

Being stalked – a follow up

This post has now moved to here.

I wrote that post about Jamie Dornan yesterday in a rage, and with little time to do so. Then as the day wore on and I thought about it in a bit more depth I realised there were a lot of issues I didn’t cover.

One of the things that made me realise there was more to cover was the comments I got after posting it – or more specifically the comments I didn’t get.

Being stalked doesn’t feel “kind of exciting”

This post has now moved to here.

I read something today which made me angry, turns out that in preparation for his role in The Fall, Jamie Dornan.. actually.. let me tell you in his own words..

I, like, followed a woman off the train one day to see what it felt like to pursue someone like that.

“I really kept my distance … she got off a few stops earlier than I was planning so I said right, I have to commit to this. I followed her around a couple of street corners and then was like: what are you doing?

“It felt kind of exciting, in a really sort of dirty way, I’m sort of not proud of myself. But I do honestly think I learned something from it, because I’ve obviously never done any of that. It was intriguing and interesting to enter that process of ‘what are you following her for?’ and ‘what are you trying to find out?’”

Being an angry woman – and why it scares me

This post has now moved to here.

Thanks to my gender I’ve known from a very young age that the expectations for me were radically different than the expectations for a child born to the opposite gender.

Thanks to my gender I was taught that it was preferable to be;

– caring (even towards those who would hurt us – sometimes especially towards them)

– gentle (no raised voices, no swearing, no anger)

– accommodating (we learn to compromise, to put other people’s needs ahead of our own)

– carers (the eternal mothers, even before puberty)

– pacifists (we are mediators, the calming ones)
